current uncle of the week, future father of the week.

Uncle Kyle & Macy Posted by Picasa

We had a great weekend. Saturday, we slept in and then performed our favorite ritual - Saturday breakfast at Java Jae's. It was good, coffe and a bagel before heading over to Rapid City to meet up with Tera and Macy, who were in town for the weekend. Kyle and I did a little shopping then met up with Mom, Duane, Tera & Macy at the Firehouse, our fave RC restaurant. I got to hold the baby (she's SO tiny) FINALLY. Then, the girls went to do some paint/baby/misc shopping, while the boys went home (to my mom's). We had a great time. Once we got back, mom showed me how to use my new (really old - it was Kyle's grandma's, then his sister's, and now mine) sewing machine. I'm trying to learn how to sew. Then I can make all my purses instead of having to buy them every week. Anyway, I got the basics down. Kyle held the baby and seemed to really like being around her. He was always asking where the baby was and held her a few times, even burped her once. My mom, of course, kept making comments like "Kyle, you'll be such a good daddy... NEXT YEAR" which really cracked me up, but left Kyle rolling his eyes. Maybe someday he will want a baby. :) We didn't stay the night, my mom already had a houseful (my aunt and uncle were in town also and my mom has two "foster" kids - my cousins). It was a fun day. Sunday I did some web work, Kyle washed my car, we went to a movie - Red Eye - which was better than expected. I like weekends like that. Family, shopping, movies, it was good.

yay! new baby pics!

Check them out here. They're finally out of the hospital and at home!

i am a chicken.

I couldn't buy the laptop this weekend. Kyle ok'd it, and was even helping me shop, but I got scared thinking of all the bills we could be paying with that money and decided to postpone the purchase one more month. We'll for sure have another bill paid off by then and then I'll be more ready to buy one. In the meantime, I have to be sure I'm buying what I want. I can wait another month.....

major purchase possible this weekend...

Kyle told me last night that I might be able to buy a laptop THIS WEEKEND! This is huge news, I have been begging for a laptop for months, maybe even years. I'm super excited. We're looking at getting a PowerBook - a mac. Any opinions on this?

i am a shoplifter.

I accidentally tried to shoplift two water refills at the grocery store yesterday. I had filled them up and I usually just leave them in my cart at the check out and then tell the check out lady that I have them. She doesn't need to scan them, they are refills. Yesterday, as I was checking out, I got a phone call and remembered I needed to get Kyle some candy bars for his lunches. So, I was on the phone, frantically grabbing candy, and forgot about the water completely. When she went to put my bags in the cart (they still bag the groceries for you in Wyoming), she looked at the water and looked at me and started to say "Um, what about those waters..." when I said "Oh no, I completely forgot about those!". She gave me the "yeah, right, you water thief" look. I felt dumb. My first shoplifting attempt (though unintentional) and I got busted.

IT'S A GIRL

Macy Donetta Koupal was born on Wednesday, August 10th at 9:22am. She weighed 7 lbs, 2 ounces and was 19 inches long. The baby is doing well, she has been on oxygen since birth because of fluid in her lungs. Mommy and Daddy are doing great! Pictures to come soon!

good news

I'm going to see the baby. I'm leaving after work today and driving the 6 hours to Mitchell with my mom, then turning around and coming back tomorrow after we get to spend some time with baby and mommy! Pictures when I get back!

the birth has been scheduled...

I will be an aunt tomorrow at 9:30. Tera is scheduled to have a c-section because her stubborn little alien-head baby is still breech. I'm so excited! I can't wait!

COPS: Gillette

A Wednesday afternoon Christmas party planning meeting was broken up with news that our vehicle mechanic was being arrested. Sure enough, he was carted off in handcuffs and sitting in the sheriff's car outside. No one knew the charges, althought there was much speculation: domestic abuse, drugs, etc. Yesterday, we FINALLY found out why he had been arrested:

Parents allegedly deliver meth to children
Campbell County Sheriff's deputies and Division of Criminal Investigation officials busted a couple's apparent methamphetamine lab Wednesday that is alleged to have provided drugs to Wyoming minors, including the couple's 15-year-old child.

Jocelyn Caughie, 35, and Ralph Caughie, 51, were arrested on probable cause for delivery of meth to someone younger than 18 years old and for drug endangered children, Campbell County Investigator Steve Hamilton said.

Deputies got a report at 2:30 p.m. that the couple was delivering meth to minors from their home at 12626 N. Highway 59, Hamilton said. When Hamilton went to investigate, he could tell from plain view that it was possible the home contained a meth lab, he said.

DCI officials who were called in to search the lab found chemicals and items that had allegedly been used to try and make meth and plates containing a white substance that appeared to be the product of that attempt, although it did not test positive for meth, Hamilton said. They also found meth that did test positive, as well as marijuana and drug paraphernalia, he said. Investigators believe that the lab was used to try to make meth sometime within the past month, Hamilton said.

Formal charges are still pending.

My favorite line is "he could tell from plain view that it was possible the home contained a meth lab". I have every intention of going out there this weekend and taking pictures. Once you see what one looks like, you can be on the lookout for a home containing a meth lab. I know I'll be on the prowl....

Another office favorite is "plates containing a white substance that appeared to be the product of that attempt, although it did not test positive for meth". So, the guy is not only stupid for making drugs, he's so stupid he can't even make them right. Just an all-around moron as far as I can tell. His arraignment is today at 1:30. I'll keep you updated.

pet peeve #1

People that stand too close in the check out aisles. This happened to me yesterday. And to make matters worse, personal hygiene was an issue and made the situation more unpleasant. Why can't people just give me two feet of breathing room? This guy was less than a foot away from me. I can't move up, because then I'm crowding someone else, which creates a whole chain of people too close for comfort. What's the best thing to do in this situation? I have no ideas.....

i survived the family reunion

The family reunion was a big success. The family had rented a spot out at the lake, and Tera brought her boat (and her huge belly - more on that later) so we could go tubing. Mike and Tera had to take off to go to anther family event, so Kyle & I were put in charge of the boat. We took kids tubing all day, we were on the lake for about 5 hours. But, it was really fun and the kids loved it. I'll post some pics of the tubing excitement:

That's my favorite sequence with my little sister, Maggie: watch her face turn from "This is Easy" to "Holy Crap!!".
